The club’s own Rtn John Ball was our guest and spoke about his career as a journalist on Fleet Street, where he had the opportunity to interview many world leaders, from Churchill to Bill Clinton. John provided some interesting background on how the response by the United States to clamp down on large money transfers following 9/11 was instrumental in bringing about a peace treaty in Northern Ireland and in conscripting Tony Blair to involve British troops in the Iraq War. John also was one of the first journalists to realise the troubles in Northern Ireland revolved more around power relations than religion.
Rtn John also brought with him a brief video, which he produced and provided voice-over narration on the Rotary Club of Hong Kong South’s ongoing involvement with Leprosy villages in Sichuan, China.
