19 MAY 2011 Transcript of Acting President PP Francesco

Good afternoon rotarian friends and distinguished guests ,  welcome to Hong Kong South’s regular lunch meeting ; it is my honor to stand-in for President Stephen, who is presently in us and attending the Rotary International convention in New Orleans, Louisiana . Our PE Martin is also attending the convention, which runs from 21st to 25th May.  i have been in New Orleans in the past . Those of you that have been there may agree that New Orleans has a unique flavor .  The city was established in the mid 1700s and populated by a mix of races and nationalities:  French, English, Spaniards, Italians , Mexicans , African-Americans.. …  Louis Amstrong, one of the great jazz players was born in New Orleans in 1900.  Louis played Preservation Hall in 1920’s, part of the French Quarter with their Dixieland music.  i wish i were there ..... Well weather conditions are not ideal in New Orleans and we hope that it will not affect the convention.

club 888 raffle draw -annual ball held on 5th of may .  must congratulate members for the results of club 888 .  all tickets were sold at full value and the total collection is hk$ 444,000.. well done HK South ! ....... This will give us resources for our ongoing community projects.  i think this is the best financial performance in more than 10 years. I have asked Lillian to search Club 888 historical data and she could not find any similar performance in the past decade . so it must be late 90’s draw!
i must also acknowledge the outstanding support of few rotarians as contributors to club 888.  first and foremost our pp George Li with 79 tickets sold equal to hk$ 70,000 or 16% of total collection. thank you George… let’s show our appreciation ....  also our club 888 chairman PP Bernie with 64 tickets sold or 13%.
We have a regular contributor to club 888 who has been with us for the past few years . In our records it appears Rotary Club Kowloon North…....... that is not entirely correct .... actually one member of this club PP William Benter is buying the lot of 60 tickets and registering each club member of this club as ticket holder .  I tried to invite PP Bill to our today’s meeting and present our formal thanks.  Unfortunately he left for overseas but we will invite him to our club on future opportunity.
