Preserving Hong Kong's biodiversity. Also: prize presentation for our Write-up competition on: Our Needs (我門的需要)

Dr. Roger Kendrick, Senior Conservation Officer at Kadoorie Farms, gave a detailed presentation on Hong Kong’s diverse and fragile ecosystems. Starting from pre-human times, Dr. Kendrick’s lecture touched on many historical and legislative events that have helped shape or destroy Hong Kong’s natural heritage. Of particular concern to Dr Kendrick was how little consideration government gives to the impact of new development on Hong Kong’s biodiversity. Hong Kong’s county parks, for example, are isolated from one another, often cut off by development, resulting in loss of genetic flow for species within those areas. One of the goals of Kadoorie Farms and Botanic Garden is to help create natural bridges to county parks to ensure biodiversity.

Samples of the order lepidoptera (butterflies) were also on hand to enjoy.
