1981-82: PP Frank Archibald

Message from President Frank Archibald

This publication sets out in some detail the events and activities of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong South during the Rotary year which ended on 30 June 1982.  It also provides for our visiting Rotarians and members of the 300 Club an insight to the operations and workings of our Club.

The aim of our Club is to serve the community through team effort and good fellowship and to use our resources to benefit as many people as possible.  The various committees appointed to operate the Club during my term of office worked extremely hard and diligently and their respective reports are included in this document.

During the Rotary year we had a visit from the President of Rotary International Stan McCaffery and his wife which was a most enjoyable event.  The Rotary year was introduced in nautical fashion with a party boat trip on a Yaumati Ferry in Hong Kong Harbour.  This event was extremely enjoyable and set the scene for excellent fellowship during the year.  Further fellowship activities included a Hawaiian Night at the Country Club and our Annual Ball at the Repulse Bay Hotel which unfortunately now has gone the way of most old and characteristic buildings in Hong Kong.

The Community Service Committee worked diligently in spending the Club’s funds during the year and the number of activities sponsored by our Club is a credit to the efforts of all Rotarians.  The International Service Committee was able to make a real and fruitful contribution to Sri Lanka with the donation of wood working equipment which will allow the development of particular skills on the Island.  Sister Club relationships were established with the Rotary Club of Singapore West and the Rotary Club of Prakanong, Bangkok.  As always Club Service carried out an excellent job of organizing speakers and activities throughout the year.

As President I was privileged to be a member of the joint Presidents’ Committee involving presidents from all Hong Kong and Macau Clubs which met on a regular basis for business and social activities throughout the year and extended the bond of fellowship between the Clubs of our district.

In conclusion I would like to thank the officers and members of the Club who served me in my year of President and I wish the Club every success in the future.
