Lunch meeting: Speaker: Lo Wing Sun. Topic: Geopark.

Our speaker today was Mr. Lo Wing Sun and his topic was “Hong Kong Geopark and Conservation”.  Mr. LO Wing Sun is a Recommended Geopark Guide since its establishment in 2010 for the Hong Kong Geopark system and is also the Education Convener of the Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong, the only organisation of its kind in Hong Kong.  By profession he is an educational specialist in further studies and has been an educational administrator for more than a decade.

Hong Kong Geopark is made up of eight Geo-Areas distributed across the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region and Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region, a total area of about 50 square kilometres.

A Geopark serves to conserve the unique landforms and landscape in Hong Kong, through protecting the landform environment that provides natural habitat to many living things.  Such an integrated conservation strategy is also a global trend.  Therefore, HK establish the Geopark to promote landform and rock conservation.

As the Education Convener of The Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong, Mr. Lo hope to preserve the landforms and rocks of HK, to disseminate scientific information of our earth, to promote sustainable geotourism and ecotourism, and to make HK a better place to live.

We collected HK$730 for raffle and fines, Mr. Lo draw the raffle gift as Rotary Moon Cake Coupon and the winner was Rtn Praveen.
